NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release:  August 2, 2007

Contact:  Beth Speers, Altamont Public Library Librarian

Subject:  Let the Altamont Public Library make back to school easier

It's school time again! Your children are probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and maybe even a new school. Luckily, these "new" worries only stick around for a little while.

Here are a few final tips for a fantastic beginning of the school year:

  • Get enough sleep.

  • Eat a healthy breakfast.

  • Develop good work habits, like writing down your assignments and turning in your homework on time.

  • Use all the resources available at the Altamont Public Library.

  • Take your time with school work. If you don't understand something, ask the teacher.

  • Keep a sense of humor – remember that school is fun!

Reading with children and helping them practice specific reading components can dramatically improve their ability to read. Adults can help children learn to be good readers.  It just takes a little effort on the part of parents, and a few good library books.

Altamont Public Library librarians are ready to help you with any of your school projects.  The Altamont Public Library’s hours are:  Monday-Wednesday 2-7 p.m.; Thursday 5-8; Friday 2-6 p.m.; and Saturday 9-1.

For more information on the Altamont Public Library call 618-483-5457 or go to www.altamontpubliclibrary.com.
