NEWS RELEASE Contact: Sam Gnuse, Altamont Public Library Board President Subject: Altamont Public Library presentation on “First Response to Farm Accidents” The Altamont Public Library invites the community to a free program on “First Response to Farm Accidents” on March 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the library. Shelly Kuhns, R.N., will present the 45 minute program on how lay persons on the scene should stabilize and provide initial care to the injured while obtaining help. Ms. Kuhns will include head injuries, lacerations, amputations, eye injuries, inhalation injuries, chemical exposures, and other rural and farm injuries. This program, the first of three, is possible due to a grant through the Illinois State Library. The Altamont Public Library recently was awarded the grant, Bridging the Gap Between Collection and Community, through a grant request written by Beth Speers, Librarian. The grant - “Information for a Healthier Altamont” – awarded the library $3,000 for updated health and wellness materials for all ages. According to Mrs. Speers, “Many of the new materials will be available for the first time for checkout at the time of this program. We are proud to sponsor Ms. Kuhns’ presentation to help increase awareness of the rural health and safety issues. The March 24 presentation, as well as the new material, will provide information for all ages, not just adults,” according to Mrs. Speers. Rural families are encouraged to attend. A second presentation is currently being scheduled for April 21 at 1 p.m. at the Library. Dr. Robert Frost will present a health and wellness program focusing on children’s health. The third program is still being planned. Watch for more details in the next few weeks. For more information on the Altamont Public Library call 618-483-5457 or go to www.altamontpubliclibrary.com.
