Subject: January 2008 Altamont Public Library Board of Directors meeting
The Altamont Public
Library Board recently met on January 14, 2008. On the agenda was the status of
equipment repair, copier replacement, 100th Anniversary ideas, and
the essay contest winners.
The list of bills to
be paid for January was presented. These bills included charges for books,
utilities, basic library supplies, internet service and web hosting.
Additional funds totaling $680 have been received from the holiday
fundraisers.
Beth Speers,
Librarian, gave a brief overview of the December’s circulation figures, which
included our service of interlibrary loans. In December, there were a total of
78 books and items borrowed, and 214 loaned through the Shawnee Library System
interlibrary loan program. Over 900 people used the library during December
and almost 1,400 items were checked out.
Librarians provided a
tour of the library for area 12 Cub Scouts in December. Two local Head Start
classes will be provided a tour of the library in January.
The library has
purchased a new copier, which should be available shortly. The copier was
purchased with funds from donations to the library.
Library technology is
being reviewed. Once cost estimates are available, the board will consider
upgrades to both software and hardware to keep the computers available for
library patrons as funds are available.
Kris Becker’s latest
CD continues to be available for purchase at the Library’s Circulation Desk. A
portion of the price is being donated to the library.
Web statistics for 2007 were reviewed. Over
18,000 visits to the library in 2007, which is double the number of browsers in
2006.
Additional discussion was held on events to
celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Altamont Public Library in
2008. The board reviewed the essays written by area students. The deadline for
the contest was January 12, 2008. Winners will be presented with their prizes
at the Open House.
Library articles for publication were discussed,
as well as details on the upcoming Open House. Final details are being worked
out. Any interested community member can volunteer to assist the Library staff
and board members with the events. Just stop at the circulation desk and let us
know of your interest.
With no further business, the meeting was
adjourned. For more information on the Altamont Public Library call
